When silhouette creates keys, it would be good if it inserted keys into an effects timeline within AE. The keys do not need to be "editable" other than being able to be slid within the timeline.

An AE compositor may have __hundreds__ of layers within AE. the only way we can guarantee we can match keys is to "toggle" the layer properties so only a given keyframe set appears.

Thus, if we have silhouette applied to, say, 5 layers, we could adjust timing of the masks within AE for all 5 layers at once.

otherwise, it gets very tedious having to open silhouette for each layer to simply realign a set of keys.

I'm wondering if there might not be a misunderstanding. Roto is a plug-in that produces alpha channels. If you exit roto, any shapes drawn there will affect the composite done in AE. AE masks don't have to have any involvement at all with roto. It happens that roto can export and import AE masks, but this is not required.

You can just export the masks to AE - roto has this functionality built in. Once they are AE masks, you can slip them or move/delete keyframes or whatever the heck ya want, because it's an AE mask.

But yeah, not sure you'd need to do that. You move the layer, and the alpha moves with it. So unless you were doing something funky on like a solid or something, you probably won't need to move keys all that often?

being able to export the masks to AE to get keys to move within AE timeline is fine at this point.

clients change timing on my projects all the time. this can have major effect on the rotos.
