View Full Version : feather tool
I love it! but when you have a spline around say the peak of a cap and it loops back around. the feather tool creates a kind of spill out the sides, I tried to add more control points but they dont quite get rid of it all. do I make sence? i'd really like to beable to control the spill somehow.
:thanksagain:

Yeah, this is a limitation. There is currently no way to avoid the spill except to reduce the length of the feather normal at that location.

I tried to reduce the feather on both sides to as close to 0 as I could but it seems to have no effect on the spill out. It seem as if the existence of a feather causes it not the size (or am I missing something?)
Also is there a numeric feather length input?
Great product keep up the good work.
I found the same ( existance of the feather causes the spill ) the only way to reduce it is to have no feather. and a numeric value would be great to add consistant feathers over a number of splines.
and now I have a small skinny shape ( a wire ). with the feather applied it spills out 10 times the size of the shape?! why?

Well, I could try to explain the algorithm to you... :-)
That's just an unpleasant artifact of the way the current feathering algorithm works. It works wonderfully for some shapes, and poorly for others.
perhaps we need two algorithms. keep the one that works wonderfully and add a new one for the ones that work poorly. or an algorithm intensity slider.

Oh I admit we need another one. The problem is coming up with one.
If anyone wants to suggest one, which uses our existing "point-anywhere" method, please feel free!
