I have a person walking into a scene from off screen that I need to create a matte around. I have turned the orange tile in the room to green, but unfortunately the tile reflecting some color onto her skin and the fact that she has red hair has caused her to become a tad green herself. I need to do an overlay of just her from the original scene onto the greened scene. All I really need is a matte between the two images so I am overlaying only her as she walks into the scene. I was hoping to find software that can detect the separation from the background automatically due to the movement and create the matte automatically. I was told Roto will help me do that. Questions:
Am I best using the AE plugin or the standalone? I do have AE, just not sure which method is easier. Next question is how do I do it? Thanks.

Um, roto is the act of manually defining such a matte. And silhouette+roto has tools for speeding the manual extraction of this foreground image. But it is by no means automatic.

You might check into imagineer system's mokey - that is the only semi-automatic matte generation tool using shapes in existence (at the moment). Although, it's horribly expensive and only works for a small percentage of shots with certain characteristics in my experience.

My advice is to get someone else to roto it for you. ;)

Can you key any of it? If not, it just comes down to rolling up your sleeves, cranking up the music, putting your head down and going for it.
