Faster Composite Playback

Would there be a way of allowing for the composite playback mode to cache the frames, and then playback at a faster speed?

At the moment the playback is i imagine being rendered by the software, and therefore rather jerky and slow... As it is a very useful mode to check the accuracy of the matte, it would be nice to see it playback at the same speed as the foreground frames... however.. it would also be nice to be able to play it back at half speed at times also.. for closer scrutiny.

Any plans to hardware accelerate the rendering/compositing?

Eventually.

Right now the rendering is so fast, there is actually a bottleneck to hardware accelerate it (we were showing hardware acceleration last SIGGRAPH, but disabled it for broader compatibility with hardware).

We have some stuff planned that will benefit from hardware acceleration, though we will require specific OGL hardware to enable it.
