View Full Version : 25 FPS in FCP plugin ?

Hello and good evening,
I'm still doing first steps with the demo in FinalCutPro - so maybe my questions only apply to the demo itself.
- I cannot select 25 FPS (or type it) in the viewer. It remains at 30 FPS.
- I cannot select foreground/background/comp in the viewer. The background is black (maybe because the backgd is on another layer). But how will this work in the future with the fully functional version ? How to roto if I cannot see the elements ?

Greetings
Uwe

You can't type a new FPS into the box at this time. Roto gets its rate from the host app. Is your FCP project set to 25fps or 30fps?

As for the background, you need to drop a background track onto the background control in the FCP effect controls area before going into the Roto UI.

Hello,
found the foreground/background trick.
But the 30 FPS still cannot be altered.

Hi Paul,
the sequence is set to DV PAL 25FPS. Output Blackmagic PAL 8bit.

Uwe is right. Marco logged this as 1173 (frame rate). This is related to my 1172 (tracker options).

Even with 30 FPS.....
Roto is the long awaited "missing link" to make FinalCut "Pro".
Just read the manual and tried some basic stuff, nesting & multilayering masks - Wow !
It's such an immense improvement to FCP that Apple should make it a part of a next release.

Hello Roto,
after a few months and migration to FC Studio the problems with 25 FPS still exist. Just wanted to ask if you are aware of the problem and thinking about a bugfix.
The problem is that you cannot see the final composite before rendering it out in FinalCutPro.
If you animate a simple mask (square or something over time... you see a non-matching mask 'cause Roto is showing 30 FPS).This means the image has advanced 5 frames further per sec than it should.
My workflow for colorcorrection for example is to duplicate the same clip on videotrack2, paint a mask around the problematic areas to correct just these areas with a new coco.
Until I've rendered I see a wrong mask (30 FPS) and a wrong filter.
After rendering the result is fine - but it is kind of hard guesswork for me and the clients (= "Trust me - it will work in the end").
And the masks aren't perfect sometimes in conjunction with the coco-filter.
I'd like to have a preview.
Do you think it is worth to do a bugfix or am I the only one working in FinalCut with Roto ?

Greetings
Uwe

Will try and fix for this next release of Roto.

Hello Marco,
that would be great as FinalCut 5 still has no good masking tool.
Apple did not enhance masking capabilities.
