How do I expand and reduce the Timeline without a scrollwheel mouse?

Just like with zooming in the viewer. Hold SHIFT and drag the middle mouse button up and down.

Marco, I just checked the manual - it refers to mouse wheel zooming only. Could you add language indicating it's available with Shift - Zoom?

On page 40 of the current manual uder Zooming and Panning Keyboard Shortcuts, it already has the information that you are looking for. No manual update is necesssary.
